EveryAesthetic develops a new approach to aesthetic value that foregrounds the diversity and richness of aesthetic experiences in our everyday lives.
In the last 10-15 years, there has been an upsurge of interest in theories of aesthetic value. However, most of this work has focussed on artworks and artefacts, leaving a gap in understanding the nature of aesthetic value in everyday experiences.
EveryAesthetic starts from the idea that to understand the nature of aesthetic value, we should prioritise everyday aesthetic phenomena. It has two research objectives. First, it aims to identify and elucidate the challenges everyday aesthetic phenomena pose to existing theories of aesthetic value. Second, it aims to work towards developing a theory of aesthetic value that is adequate to explain what makes everyday aesthetic phenomena aesthetically valuable.
